Program of Studies
Diplomas will be granted to pupils who have completed the requirements for graduation established by the State of New Jersey and the curriculum approved by The Board of Trustees of Academy Charter High School. Each pupil must earn a minimum of 125 which must include:
ENGLISH – 20 credits
Four courses, including Communications, Advanced Communications, American Literature, Multicultural Literature, Core English, World Literature 1, and/or World Literature 2
MATH – 15 credits
Three courses, including Algebra I, Geometry, and an Advanced Level Math which includes Advanced Math Concepts, Algebra 2, and/or Math Analysis
SOCIAL STUDIES – 15 credits
One course of World History and two courses of United States History
SCIENCE – 15 credits
Three courses, including Lab Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science and/or Anatomy.
PHYSICAL EDUCATION & HEALTH – 20 credits
One course of Physical Education & Health for each year of enrollment
WORLD LANGUAGE – 5 credits
One course required; two or more recommended
VISUAL AND PERFORMING ARTS – 5 credits
One course in a VPA; Humanities or Creative Arts offered
FINANCIAL LITERACY – 2.5 credits
One course of Financial Literacy; Civics & Economics meets the requirement
21st CENTURY LIFE AND CAREERS, OR CAREER-TECHNICAL EDUCATION – 5 credits
Senior Project (includes 15 individual & 15 group community service hours) required
Electives – 20 credits
Options include: Interplanetary Engineering, Computer Science, Art of Research, Strategies for Success, Urban Literature, Mindfulness & Wellbeing, History of Hip Hop, STEM Labs, Robotics & Coding, College Writing, and more.
Advanced Studies 1 & Advanced Studies 2 (120 internship hours) – half day senior option
